The Start of a New Season

It’s been a while since I stopped by just to chat. With Fall getting closer it’s time to reflect about the last six months and the times to come. Personally, this is the start of the busy season in my house. Not only school starts for 3 out of 4 kids, but it coincides with the start of the birthday and holiday seasons. Therefore, it works great as the new beginning for my writing cycle.

At the beginning of March, I decided to participate in the Don’t Read in the Closet: Love is an Open Road writing event hosted by the Goodreads M/M Romance Group.  I committed to one story prompt and started the exciting process. Then, by the end of the month, a different prompt became orphan (original author had to withdraw) and I adopted it; increasing my commitment to two stories. So far, so good.

The first prompt was about a pirate and his first love and developed into St. Andrew’s Bay Chronicles. And the poor orphan merman found love with a mershark in Beyond the King’s Curse. Both stories are now part of the Gate to the Worlds series which would consist of five novellas— about 25k words each, with the events running parallel. I’m hoping to release the last three stories during 2016 since the first two are already available for free download.

By June 1st I was done with the stories and ready to work on a Xmas story I wanted to submit to a publisher’s open call. I started the research and had some ideas written down, but I received a newsletter from the Goodreads BDSM group (which I had joined several days before) and got sidetracked. They were looking for authors to participate in their first writing event and I couldn’t say no after I read one of their prompts. Couple of hours later and Xmas story forgotten, I started working on my first BDSM story. And once again, I got distracted by a different prompt that was left behind collecting dust, ending up with two more stories.

I submitted Binding Jax’s Heart by the end of July, not only my first BDSM story, but my first ménage, and with a domme to boost. It’s going to be available for exclusive release September 16th. After that, I moved to the next prompt for which I got an extension before I claimed it. This second story was about a flamboyant photographer looking for a bear to call his boy. It gave me the most trouble from all the stories I have written so far, but I like it anyway. Is more of an erotic romance than anything else, but still has a lot of heart. The photographer morphed into a genderfluid character, but it works well with the prompt anyway. Graphic Exposure was submitted at the end of August and it is scheduled for exclusive release October 16th.

Wow, that was a mouth type full. And don’t even get me started about all the reading & flash fics I did, but that’s a story for a different post.

Now up to the new season….

I’m very happy with the four stories I wrote during the last six months. And that includes all the research, outlining, writing, editing, cover design, and everything else involved to get them ready for you, guys. Running high on all that, I’m planning to concentrate on writing full-time instead of just seeing it as a hobby. I guess I need to justify all my free time (according to everyone that knows me) now that school started.

I’m taking the month of September to get organize, update websites & social media outlets, and to get the ideas flowing. I’m hoping to write that Xmas story I abandoned, plus a short follow up to The Glass Ornament (last year’s seasonal short). It may sound like a lot, but I’m looking forward to it. As soon as I have more details about anything, I’ll let you all know.

I also write under other pen names (Leigh Hunter being one of them) and those are getting new stories and content as well. Perhaps on a smaller scale, but they deserve some love too.

I’m leaving you with the current view from my desk— a beautiful afternoon after a quick summer shower, that cleaned everything for a new and bright start. Plus my work area, since I always clear it up before I start a new project. It may look like a hoarder’s dwelling, but it is just organized chaos.

What about you? Any new plans for the Fall and Winter?
